Ken Unzicker
January 26, 2002
Southern Dunes, Orlando, FL
#11 - Par 3 - 166 yards
This was Ken's 3rd ace. He says he used a 5 iron but reliable witnesses argue that it was a 5 wood :)
Either way it was a pretty shot.

"I just bought a new set of Adams Tight Lies GT Ultimate Irons and used my 6 iron for the first time ever on a golf course and aced the hole. Oh Yeah!" We guess Bob likes those clubs :)

Mike Lewis
May 1, 2002
Shenandoah Golf Club, Gordonsville, VA
#17 - Par 3 - 140 yards
|
"After playing six years, I got a hole in one at Shenandoah Golf Club,
located in Gordonsville, Virginia. I used a Taylor Made 9 iron at the
17th green, par three 140 yard from the white tees. I usually shoot in
the high 90's, and rarely even hit the greens on par three's. It was my
first and hopefully not the last. I play in a regular foursome and I'm
the third to get their first ace."

Jay Brown
March 9, 2002
Raspberry Falls, Leesburg, VA
#5 - Par 3 - 189 yards
|
"I hit a six iron from about 189 on the 5th hole there. I was just talking about how I thought I could use some different irons, I need a change from my MP33's and the next thing was wow, in the hole. Needless to say my irons are in the bag for another month, ha ha."

David "Ike" Isenberg
April 14, 2002
U of Maryland Course, College Park, MD
#4 - Par 3 - 175 yards
|
"With 4 skins riding on it and my buddy Bill in too close for comfort I chose a 5 iron into the wind. I never saw the ball go in, but the guys on #5 tee were raising hell so i guess luck beats skill 9 times outta 10."
|
|
Dudley Barnette

"In the heat of battle against three other titans of the game, Bob (The Bloodhound of the Fairways) Harwood, Russ (W.A.P. - What a Putt!) Sarver, Mr. Tom Hynes, I carded a hole-in-one"
|
|
Rick Fleming
June 30, 2002
Stoneybrook GC, Jacksonville, AL
#2 - Par 3 - 149 yards

Rick's first ace came on a humid day as he stuck a shot with a Callaway X-14 Pro Series 9 iron. His Nike #1 Ti-Velocity ball was retrieved from the hole as it nestled next to the flag stick.

Ray VanHorn
July 15, 2002

"Using a 7 iron, I launched it right at the hole. One bounce later, it sunk in the bottom of the cup. Using a Top Flite ball and Ping iron, my buddies (Dresser, Adacik, and Newman) were there with me to celebrate the occasion."

#8 - Par 3 - 182 yards
|
I was not playing very well that day. When we got to the 8th hole I decided to change balls. I hit my Ping eye2 4 iron and it took one bounce into the hole. I went with a titilest pro v,for my first hole in one.

Bradley N. Marson
Oct 5, 2002
Greystone Golf Course
#14 - Par 3 - 132 yards
|
I was having a pretty good round on a perfect fall day at Greystone Golf Course. The wind was blowing about 15 mph when I came up to the 14th hole that was playing 132 yards slightly up hill. I clubbed down to an 8 iron but hit the shot thin. I couldn't believe it when it sail onto the green and rolled 15 feet into the cup. Thankfully, my father-in-law was there to offer high fives and witness my first ever hole-in-one. |

June 22, 2002
Golf Club of Avon, CT (Red Course)
#2 - Par 3 - 194 yards
|
Playing in my brother-in-law's member/guest, I hit a 5 wood. I was so hung over from the night before that I hit it, saw that it was headed for the green and went to sit back in the cart. Our opponents started screaming when they saw it go into the cup.

Bill Byrne (again)
September 29, 2002
Penn National Founders Course
#13 - Par 3 - 143 yards
|
On our annual Fall golf trip, I hit a 7 iron. This time I saw it all the way into the cup. What was better was that the hole was the closest-to-the-pin hole in our little tournament so I got to write 0 on the "Closest-to-the-pin" marker for all my buddies to see that came after me.

John Adams
of Virginia
June 26, 2003
Herndon Golf Course
#6 - Par 3 - 132 yards
|
I've been playing golf for 37 years and this was my first hole-in-one. What a feeling. I play in a league on Thursday nights and the 6th hole is usually into the sun, so, you can't see where your ball ends up. I hit the shot thinking the ball had rolled off the back of the green but when we got to the green and looked for my ball it was "IN THE HOLE"!!!

Frank Yost
of Germantown, MD
March, 2003
Stonehouse
#3 - Par 3 - 175 yards
|
We began the year by going to Williamsburg, VA in late March. It was just three of us because one of our regulars couldn't make it. The third hole at Stonehouse was playing 175 yards and I hit a five iron with a little cut. It landed, kicked two yards right and disappeared. Neither one of my friends had ever seen an ace before. They were more excited than I was. It was my third in my thirty years of playing.

June 26, 1996
Meadows Farm Golf Course
Locus Grove, VA
Waterfall Side, #8 - PAR 3 - 139 Yards
|
We had made the trip down to Meadows Farm that day unaware there was a small company outing going on, but were allowed to play. We were just right on the tail end of the last two groups when we were given the ok to play on through on this Par 3 (we were just a group of 3). With my group and two others all sitting around watching I try to casually hit my 8 Iron. Thinking I hit it a bit fat, I turned back to the cart thinking 'it figures, all these people watching and from up at 139 yards, I'm short'. All of the sudden one of the guys in my group yells "it's in"! Thinking he is just kidding me for the short fat shot I thought I had just hit (you know this guy - every group that plays seems to have a least one of these guys) I didn't believe him and was sure my ball was laying somewhere in the deeper first cut short of the green . After we pulled the cart up, I went looking for my ball, they go over and pull the pin and out pops my Top-Flite Magna. One of my best moments in golf, my first and only hole-in-one...and didn't even see it go in!

May 13, 2003
Penderbrook Golf Club
Hole: #10 - Par 3 -220 yards
|
It all happened so fast and unexpected....... I just arrived at the Penderbrook Golf Course with a golf buddy, Sunny, and we were trying to tee off, however, there was a 'backup' at the front nine holes. The starter decided to let us tee off from the back nine holes. We noticed that the back nine holes were just as crowded, so we teeded off right away. Without taking any 'practice swing' I just picked up my driver, because there was a strong wind in my face, and took a whack at the ball. The ball took a little draw to the green, and when the ball landed it disappeared. At first, Sunny and I thought that the ball rolled off to the back of the green. Well, when we got to the green and as we were walking toward the back fringe, we both took a peak at the hole just in case, and guess what................. the ball was in the cup!

This was Clint's second career hole-in-one.
|
|
Max Altman
July 23, 2003
Westfields Golf Club
Hole: #7 - Par 3 - 157 yards
|
Avenel GC employee Max Altman got his first hole-in-one from the Blue Tees with an 8 iron - the shot traveled uphill, across the beautiful (and steep!) gorge onto the 157 yd. par 3, bounced once and disappeared. When we reached the green, it was in the hole. Nice ovation from the work crew on #6 followed!
Westfields presented Max with a beautiful club pennant signed by Fred Couples to memorialize the event. Great day. (As reported by Max's father - Richard Altman)

Hole #10 - Par 3 - 191 yards

I was playing with, my buddy, Marcus in our practice round for the U.S. Amateur qualifier. Going to the tenth hole thinking about putting a good move on it, I grabbed the 5-iron and it never left the flag. Way more fun than the first one, I got to see this one go in.

August 16, 2003
Blue Mash Golf Course
Hole #6 Par 3, 127 yards (playing about 115)
|
I used a PW and Maxfli Noodle Ball (for the first time). I hit it high and straight over a bunker that was guarding the pin tucked behind it. The ball landed on the fringe and rollled like a putt into the hole. It was awesome and I shot my best round ever too! (83).

March 26th, 2004
Springhill Golf Course, Aurora, Colorado
Hole #17 - Par 3 - 138 yards
|
No idea what time is was, but it was growing dark and cold with no wind. The plan was to hit the approach over the bunker guarding the left front to a pin in the left rear. The shot looked really good off the tee, but disappeared over a small ridge in the green. I thought the shot was (way) long. Hunting in the rough (under the pine tree, thank you) behind the green I could not find my ball. The playing partner walked up to try his 30 footer for birdie when he noticed a Strata 1 in the cup. Since it looked identical to the one I teed up, sounded good to me! Allowed me to win the match by one stroke, expensive drinks all around.

I used a PW and a titleist Pro V1 ball. The ball hit the green and then rolled back into the hole(I didn't see it)!! All of a sudden the guys in the group started yelling "it went in". I walked up to hole still not believing and the ball was in the cup!

Bowling Green Country Club
Front Royal, VA
Hole #4 - Par 3 - 157 yards

I was playing in the semi-annual "Manassas
Assembly of God Golf Tournament" when I got
my first ACE. My team was on the island green,
4th hole, and each of my 3 teammates had found
the water. The pressure was on to simply get a
ball on the putting surface. As I walked onto the
tee with my 8 iron, people from nearby holes
stopped to watch, no doubt hoping that I would hit
into the drink. My shot flew high and early
indications were that I might be putting. The ball
landed 24 inches to the left of the cup, spun hard
right, and dropped in. Friends numbering near
double digits witnessed the shot. My first ACE
could not have been sweeter.

Spring Mill Country Club, Ivyland, Pa
Hole #15 - Par 3 - 155 Yards
|
In a slight rain and breeze, I hit a 7 iron that landed in 5 feet in front of the hole. It was tough to follow the ball. This particular hole has a fountain in front. I'm not sure as to why the fountain was spewing water high in the air like the Bellagio in Las Vegas but it caused enough intermittent obstruction of our view that we all thought the ball rolled to the back of the green. It wasn't until we couldn't find it at the back of the green did I check the hole to find it in it!

Bear Creek Golf Club - Westminster, Maryland
Hole #5 - 196 yard - Par 3
|
Bear Creek Ranger, Walt Parker was waving groups up the hill on this #1 handicapped, 196 yard par 3 hole. With the foursome in front of us still on the green, I pulled my Cobra 3 wood and launched a shot directly over the pin to the sloped green, the ball trickled back and down the slope into the hole for my ace.

After I hit my 7 iron shot I felt I had used a little to much club, but my team mates shouted looks good. The ball never touched the green. It flew right into the hole. Wow what a rush to creep up to the hole and find that Titleist Pro V1 in the bottom of the cup.

I hit a Titleist Pro V1 with my three-iron and it went right at the hole. It landed about five feet away and just stopped. Then it started trickling, and all of a sudden it just disappeared. I think it took 5 or 6 seconds. The caddie told me he’s worked there for 14 years, and this was the first hole-in-one he’s ever seen on the 14th. It was just a heck of a shot.

Beautiful weather, pin sitting behind a trap with a lip. Ball bounced once and then couldn’t see it. We drove up to the hole and at first I thought it might have been long. My partner said “look in the hole, it was a pretty good shot.” I looked, turned and just smiled! My buddies went nuts!

Deep River Golf Club- Deep River, Ontario, Canada
Hole #4 - 155 yds - Par 3

I was not playing very well thus far, so i was a little frustrated and i
grabbed my 4 iron and through down my titleist DT-Spin and gave the ball a
whack, and i really didnt connect well, and it landed on a downslope about
10 yards from the green and it just rolled onto the green at my relief, and
then closer and closer untill it was rite on the edge of the hole wedged
between the pin and the hole, as there was a stong cross-wind, and nearly 10
seconds later as the wind died down it dropped right into the hole for my
first hole in one. This marked my first hole in one of my 3 years of
golfing. I was quite pleased with myself. I also broke the club record for
the youngest player to do so, surpassing my friend, (whom i which witnessed
his hole in one the previous year on the same hole), by just a few mere
months.

5/22/05
The Homestead 'Old' Course
Hole #18 - 139 yds - Par 3
|
On May 22nd, I got my first Hole-In-One at The Homestead Resort in Virginia on their famous Old Course. I did it on the 18th hole, 139 yards, with my new Adams Hybrid 4 iron. It bounced once, hit the flag pool and dropped into the hole. I also shot a 40 on the back nine, my lowest 9-hole score ever, we won't talk about the front nine except to say that I was improving with every hole. It was a good thing I did it on the 18th hole because there is no way I could have continued to golf after that experience. It was a real adrenaline rush! We were golfing in a tournament round and our team won the round, coming in with a net score of 34 under par!

Bob Walker, Eldersburg, MD
7/4/05
Willow Springs Golf Course, West Friendship, MD
Hole #6 - 146 yds - Par 3
|
I was playing our local executive course, Willow Springs in West Friendship, on the 4th of July. On the 6th hole (146 yards), I hit an 8 iron which tracked right at the pin, bounced and rolled until I lost sight of it.
After first looking around for my ball down the back side of the green, thinking it rolled past the hole, I checked the cup and was pleasantly surprised. It was my first. I'm thankful I had 3 witnesses. What to way to celebrate the 4th of July!

Buddy E. McCulley
7/19/05
Sleepy Hole Golf Course, Suffolk, Va
Hole #12 - 151 yds - Par 3
|
I got my first Hole-In-One on the #12 hole using a four iron. I tee up with a five iron in my hand but changed to a four iron when the wind seemed to get stronger. I didn't think I could make the green into the wind I sure made the right choice the ball seemed to float towards the green dead on the flag stick landed eight feet from hole and disappeared into the hole.

Don Brooks, Columbia, MD
9/18/05
Willow Springs GC, West Friendship, MD
Hole #9 - 152 yds - Par 3
|
I, my brother in-law and two friends were playing the course at Willow Springs in West Friendship Md. Keeping in mind I have only been playing for less then a year and shooting now in the low 90s.
My brother in-law had just made a Birdie on the 7th 167 par 3. I was thinking, boy it would be nice to get a Birdie today as well.
We get to the 9th 152 yard hole and I'm up after my brother in-law who landed just off the green about 30 feet to the left of the pin. There was a easy wind blowing from my right (I'm left handed). I normally on a shot like this hit what I call my "out&in" shot. Allowing for the wind and the distance, I take out my hybred #4, I swing and take just a little off but hit it more to the right then usual and let the wind bring it back on line. It lands about 5 feet in front of the pin and about six inches to the right of the pin, then it slowly rolls directly at the pin with a ting curve. It disappears, I know it's in the hole because the green doesn't drop like that. Get to the green, it's in the cup and the rest is history. |
|
Al Guaragna
9/26/05
Country Club of Maryland, Towson, MD
Hole #17 - 169 yds - Par 3
|
Al had his hole in one at the Baltimore Association of Health Underwriter's tournament. It was breezy day on Monday and Al chose a 5-iron with a slight breeze in his face. The Pro V1 with a FOXTROT logo was beautifully struck and landed just above the hole to the right on an elevated terrace. With a little backspin the ball jumped left and began to trickle back towards the hole. When the ball was about halfway to the hole Al began to yell. The ball disappeared as the four of us began jumping up and down in excitement!
It was a shot we will all remember!! The witnessing teammates were Michael Trebbe, Michael Feglar and David Kelly. Since this was a tournament hole, they had additional witnesses stationed on the hill in case someone did make one. The bummer is that this hole had been a $25,000 hole for every tournament in past years except this year. No matter, Al can live in the glory of his third hole in one of a lifetime! (as told by Michael Trebbe)

Michael Wang
10/5/05
Cross Creek Golf Club, Beltsville, MD
Hole #7 - 184 yds - Par 3
|
This is my first hole in one. I was playing with three friends, David Goon, Curtis and Percy in a match play format. I used a 5 iron and took an easy swing and the ball hit somewhere near the front of the green with one or two bounces and then it disappeared. Percy was the first one to see the ball in the cup after we came upon the green. He has never witnessed a hole in one so I think he was more excited than I was.

Patrick Murphy
5/11/06
Potomac Ridge Golf Course - Waldorf, MD
Hole #6 (Hollow) - 175 yds - Par 3
|
It was a cloudy, dreary, breezy day with rain imminent. There was more than a little uncertainty as to whether my friend and I would be able to play at all much less complete the round. The rains did come with vengeance but my friend and I were enjoying a post game lunch and celebratory libations in the Club House.
The hole is straight away with a narrow tree lined fairway and the green protected on both sides by bunkers. I hit a 6 iron to the center of the green. I knew it was going to be a good shot as soon as I hit it. It bounced once and rolled 10 feet to the bottom of the cup…….perfect! It’s my 3rd ace but for some reason I’m enjoying this one more.

Old Hickory - Woodbridge, VA
Hole #7 - 175 yds - Par 3

I was playing in the ASAE Springtime tournament when I stuck a 6 iron for the shot of my life (perhaps the best moment of my life - sorry honey)! A slight breeze was with us and I felt strong, yet nervous standing over the ball, I hit a slight draw to the green and with a few bounces and a roll the ball went into the cup and I was $10,000 richer. The rest of my round I was giddy with delight and felt like I was floating on air. It was a special day for me - thanks for letting me share this with you.

6/25/06
Wakefield Valley (Gold Course) - Westminster, MD
Hole #6 - 169 yds - Par 3

Andrew hit his 8 iron, the ball hit a foot behind the hole and bounced right back in to the hole. He was in shock at first not believing what had just happened. He then received chest bumps from the rest of the group group; Steve Krider, Cliff Mangle, and Lewis Schnauble. Even with the hole in one though, Kuhn and Lewis still ended up losing the match against Cliff and Steve. Tough Break Kuhn.

It was a Flag Tournament, where everyone is allotted 80% of their handicap. You put your flag in the ground when you use up all of your allotted strokes. We started on the back, so the 8th hole was our next to last hole. I hit a crisp 9-iron on this downhill par 3, but I didn’t see it go in the hole. It appeared to land just over the flag, but the sun and shadows made it difficult to see. I thought it may be behind the flag or even in the shadows on the back of the green. It turns out it landed three inches left of the cup, and must have spun back in. Yeah for the spin rate of the HX Tour 56!
Since it was a tournament, and a closest to the pin hole, I got to write 0 inches on the card so everyone coming through could see it. Although it was a tournament, where refreshments and munchies were provided, there was no beer included. Therefore, to save a lot of aggravation later, I purchased a keg from the bar. The pro put a sign on it saying the beer was compliments of my ace. After that, when everyone came in to congratulate me (or to say they hit one to 2 feet and thought they might have won the closest to the pin until they saw the sign), I just said thanks… and have a beer. Oh, and I finished with my flag safely in hand.

Little Bennett Golf Course, Clarksburg, MD
Hole #12 - 66 yds - Par 3
|
This is the short (for ladies) par 3 – straight up and down. I used my Callaway X-16 Sand Wedge for a ¾ swing and a Titleist DT So-Lo. The ball hit the front fringe, bounced once then rolled into the cup for my first ACE!!! Very cool to watch it the whole way, since so many aces are not actually seen as they fall into the cup. Now my husband says we can be a “family”, since he got his first ace two years ago at Mountain View.

Hole #16 - 125 yds - Par 3

I was playing with my husband, Billy Gaddy, on the course I first learned to play golf on 5 years ago. It was hole #16, par 3, 125 yards using a 9 wood. This always plays around 135 to 140 yards at a upward incline. I knew the ball hit the pin and I turned to tell my husband that and he said, Yeah, and it just went in.

Hole #2 - 119 yds - Par 3

Hole number 2 is a short hole from an elevated tee box over a 20 foot ravine and creek. I hit the ball left of the hole with my Taylor Made Supersteel A-wedge. It rolled back a little then turned directly to the right, down to the lower tier of the green, kept rolling about 10 feet right into the hole! My first hole in one!

Hole #10 - 115 yds - Par 3

This was my second hole-in-one within a month. I was visiting my home course again in SC and took my friend, Oki Rupnow with me. My husband had gone on a golf outing to Pinehurst, NC and we decided to go visit my family in Nichols, SC. This time it was on Hole #10. 115 yards over water on a uphill cline. I used a 5 iron because of the wind and it went straight for the flag and went in. I couldn't believe it because on Sept. 22, I had just made my first one on the same course but on #16. I was also using the same kind of Nike ball and a cobra 5 iron. I guess my home course is calling me back home.

Belmont GC - Richmond, VA
Hole #13 - 163 yds - Par 3

My first ace, what a rush. Par 3 with elevated tee allowed me to see the whole shot, which make this so sweet. I hit Ping G2 6 iron and was playing with a Titleist NXT ball. I told my friend Ed, this was going to be good one. It landed about 5 feet short and rolled right in.

Oakmont Greens
Hole #2 - 147 yds - Par 3
|
I was playing Oakmont Greens on Wednesday April, 11, 2007 with my friend Brian. We got to the second hole which is a par 3—147 yards, there was a slight breeze blowing from left to right, I hit the perfect 9 iron which took two bounces and disappeared into the bottom of the cup. I made sure to get another witness besides my partner so I grabbed a gentleman that was on the tee box adjacent to the hole. It was a golf shot that I will always remember because I am a 22 handicap so I do not hit to many shots like that.

I've been playing for over 15 years now and finally marked off my first ace. Easy sand wedge into the wind, got a nice back spin and sunk it right into the cup. I guess it was worth it...dinner and drinks did cost me over $300 (never golf with retired police officers!) Now all I have to do is shoot my age...no one wait up for that one!

GlenRiddle Man 'O War
Hole #13 - 167 yds - Par 3
|
On Saturday June 16th Mr. Marsolais struck gold with his 6 iron on the 167 yard par 3. "It was a thing of beauty" said Mike "after the other team put their shots 10 and 14 feet from the hole I knew I need to hit it well." The shot was hit from an elevated tee into the wind, landed left of the hole and trickled in for his first HIO. Witnesses say that Marsolais began to dance like Rocky and then a hugfest followed. "We are very happy for Mike, he's been playing a long time and starting to get up there and we were worried he might never get an ace. Luckily his heart held out during the celebration because none of us would've given him CPR!" said playing partner P. Nutter.

Don Smith
9/30/07
Cedar Ridge - Littlestown, PA
Hole #7 - 120 yds - Par 3
|
Don's great accomplishment happened on the holiest of days of the year, his 18th Wedding Anniversary! He received permission from his spouse, Barbara, to enjoy a day of relaxation. Off he went to Cedar Ridge, in Littlestown, PA. Well, on the seventh hole, a short, 120 yard beauty, Don checked his bag and pulled out his trusty Callaway 6 iron. He teed up his Warbird, took aim and fired away. It was very windy, blowing left to right, and with Don’s usual slice, he aligned far to the left. So as the God’s parted the skies, it landed on the green, took a few holes and that’s when Don lost sight of his ball (Don is old, white-haired fellow with sore knees and failing eyesight). Well his playing partner didn’t miss it and jumped and yelled as he told Don, “You just got a Hole in One!” Though I was not there, I can attest to Don’s usually un-stellar and unsteady play on the course. So to hear him tell his fellow Alpha workers how it was a thing of beauty, we all had a laugh but in turn congratulated him as none within the circle could claim to achieved golf’s highest honor. -D.
