Virginia National Golf Club – Coming Along Nicely!

Waggle.com was invited out to Virginia National Golf Club for a showcase event of this fine layout on a steamy hot July day. You know the type that we get in this area but amazingly enough, a slight breeze kept us in the “the heat is not that bad frame of mind” for the first 15 holes.

Virginia National is a secluded track located in Bluemont Virginia, near Berryville. It’s just off of Route 7 west of Leesburg. A word of caution, please take your time traveling the final mile or so on the bumpy and somewhat unimproved road which leads to the course from Rte. 7.

Virginia National

If I had to describe Virginia National in one word, it would be “rustic”.  Rustic in the good sense!  It is a friendly course, with a friendly staff.  The clubhouse is a very cool log cabin.  The course is set along the Shenandoah river and ventures up into the hills to offer some scenic views as well.  It is a very relaxing place.

We had a tasty BBQ luncheon of pulled pork, brisket, chicken wings, potato salad, coleslaw, beans and plenty of cold beverages on this day. The Virginia National staff were extremely friendly and that only made us feel more at home in the cabin-like bar/restaurant area.  The BBQ was catered by Bill’s Backyard BBQ (www.billsbackyardbbq.com).

The course itself has made some dramatic improvements over the last several years. Although there is still room for some areas to grow in, this track is very playable and you will enjoy it.  Virginia National offers a nice mix of challenging and straightforward holes and is player-friendly to all skill levels.

Over the past several years a fire, a flood, and water pump problems have left several holes and greens on the “comeback” trail – but all in all – this course left a positive experience in my mind.

The price to play at Virginia National is also very reasonable and if you use the Waggle Golf Pass you’ll save even more!
