Cross Creek is Looking Good!

by Lefty on August 7, 2011

Last Monday Waggle.com checked out one of our friends in Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties by visiting Cross Creek Golf Club in Beltsville Maryland. Whoa? What do you mean by Prince Georges AND Montgomery Counties? Although Cross Creek is listed in the Waggle Golf Pass under Prince Georges County, believe it or not, there are 3 holes that actually extend into Montgomery County – a unique feature of this fine track!

Cross Creek Golf Course

We were supposed to tee off at 3pm but heavy rain forced us inside to the cozy confines of the bar and a cold pitcher of “malt” beverage. After about an hour or so the sky’s cleared and we ventured out to a somewhat soggy but very playable course.  We were very impressed by how well/fast the course drained as we had little if any standing water during our round.

Waiting it out with a cold beverage!

GM Brian Boltz told us to expect better conditions than in the past.  Cross Creek ‘s new superintendent has been busy making many positive changes in the management of the course and we definitely noticed the improvements!  The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in really good condition – and that’s after about an inch of rain fell just a hour or so before we played!

The layout at Cross Creek is very interesting – #14 in particular – and features many holes where you will have the classic “risk-reward” decision to make.  The Par 3’s can be long and challenging or fairly short and simply – depending on your tee selection, but most feature a shot over a large environmental area to a secluded green.

Bogeyman’s Tip: From the tee box many holes can seem intimidating but the landing areas are bigger than they look.

Matt and Andrew

On this day we were privileged to be playing with one of our favorite pigeons Andrew (aka Mr. Barter) and his friend Matt Rosenstock.  To keep the round interesting Matt and Andrew challenged us to a little match play wager for dinner.  Needless to say we enjoyed our complimentary meal at the Wild Buffalo Grill.  The wings were tasty, the beers were cold and the service was stellar.

We can’t recommend strongly enough to go play Cross Creek and check it out for yourself.  And, be sure to use the Waggle Golf Pass and take advantage and their generous discounts.  Let us know what you think.
